Thank you for applying to Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University.
As part of your department application, you are required to submit a video essay
based on the prompt outlined in the application. Please carefully read the
following information.
PDF Instructions
• Your PDF document can be max. 15 pages with one piece of work per page. Make sure
to include the title of the project/art work on each page. A brief description is
optional.
• You can use any program you’d like to create this project as long as it can be saved
or converted to a PDF document.
• Windows users can download Adobe Acrobat Pro (used for converting practically any
document into a PDF) as a free 30-day trial by clicking here.
• MAC users have PDF converter software already built in. Click "print" and in the
print dialogue box, look at the lower left corner. You'll see a menu called "PDF"
click on the menu and the first option you'll see is "Save as PDF."
• PDF files cannot exceed 50MB in total size.
• You are only allowed to submit one (1) file to this site. Make sure you are submitting
your final project as no additions/corrections can be made once you upload.
• Uploaded files become the property of Chapman University and are only used for the
application review process. All files will be deleted after the admission process
is complete.
• Note that if you plan to re-apply to Dodge College, you may use the same portfolio,
but will need to upload your project again as videos are not kept from previous
admission years.
Video Instructions
• Your video can be uploaded from QuickTime, .WMV, or Flash formats. You must
upload your video here as no DVDs will be accepted. The following extensions will
be accepted:

• When exporting a video from a video program, the size needs to be specified
so it is not over the size limit. By default most videos are exported as a full
size unless you tell the program to reduce the size. Also, to prevent distorting
your video be sure to “keep the aspect ratio”.
• You can use any program you’d like to create this project as long
as it can be saved as a file type listed above.
• If you are creating a picture slide show as opposed to actual live-action
footage, it is best to use Windows Movie Maker (standard software on PCs) or iMovie
(standard software on Apples) for your project as they are both user-friendly and
can be saved in one of the above formats.
• If you are unfamiliar with the standard free software for creating movies
or slide shows on your computer, use these websites for assistance:

are submitting your final project as no additions/corrections can be made once you
upload.
• Uploaded videos become the property of Chapman University and are only used
